Fall Centerpiece

If you follow me on Instagram you’ve probably noticed the pictures of my hydrangeas over the past few weeks. They go from white, to a lime green, then head into beautiful shades of pinks before they are done for the year.

If you just took a quick glance at them, you would cast them off as dying or dead. But upon closer inspection, you would find that their show isn’t over just yet.

We celebrated my parents birthdays in October and I decided to bring some of these beauties in so that we could enjoy them the night of the celebration. I got my garden scissors and started snipping.

I had an idea in my head of what I wanted the arrangement to look like, so I knew that I needed different size blooms and lengths of stem. Once inside, I laid them out on the floor to separate each stem and flower, I sprayed them with a little bit of Thieves household cleaner, hoping that it would encourage any critters to move out! I’m not really sure that it worked. {lol}

I also gathered some mini pumpkins from around the house to tuck in here and there and eventually added a few old bottles as well. Of course the concern was where we would put the food, but I was confident we’d work it out.

In the end, I was very happy with how it all turned out! We had plenty of space for the food and family and it was a sweet night of celebrating.

Gatherings: { C O R E E N & J I L L I A N }

Hey friends, welcome to "Gatherings", a fun little feature of the blog where we get to know the special people in your lives a little better.  If you'd like us to meet a special person in your life, just click yes at the bottom of your order form and we'll send you a link!  It only takes a few minutes and a couple of pictures and you're on your way!

Today, I'd like you to meet Coreen and her granddaughter, Jillian.

From Coreen:

Jillian is our first granddaughter and is the most sweetest girl. She plays soccer and Lacrosse. I wanted to make my granddaughters 12th Birthday special. Jillian lives in the frozen Tundra of North Dakota, and I wanted to bring some sweet sunshine for her Birthday.  What better way with beautifully decorated cookies.

I saw a friend post on Instagram Live, about these beautiful cookies. I love finding unique things for special people in my life. Thank you for making this surprise special.

Coreen, thank you so much for the opportunity to help make your granddaughters day a little sweeter!  It looks like your surprise was a success and we are proud to have been a part of that!

Gatherings: { G R E Y S O N }

I asked my friend Melanie from Instagram to share with us a bit about her son Greyson's 7th birthday.

We had so much fun celebrating Greyson's 7th birthday at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Capitol Hill in Prattville, AL - one of the most beautiful courses in the south! It's also home of the LPGA Classic! What a blessing to be able to share the experience of playing on the same course as the top female players across the nation with Greyson and his friends.

We started the day off with a new golf glove as a party favor. The boys enjoyed driving, chipping, putting, and eating delicious golf themed sugar cookies. I enjoyed showing the boys up with my golf game (wink, wink), but most importantly, I loved watching a little boy laugh, joke and have a ball with his friends (no pun intended)! It's days like this one that makes all that other busy stuff seem to vanish. Time spent this day was so enjoyable and is really what life is all about! God has truly blessed me!!!

Thank you so much for adding that special touch to an already perfect day!!!

Thank you so much Melanie, for allowing How Sweet Cookies to be a part of such a special celebration!

Gatherings: { J o y c e }

It's time for another "Gatherings" post!  This one took place in January and I'm pleased to share it with you today!

I am always amazed when clients know exactly what type of cookie they are looking for and I'm always excited when it's something that I've never done before.  Such is the case with Joyce.  You see, Joyce is married to a pig farmer and was getting ready to celebrate her husbands 70th birthday!!  Not only that but their first grandchild's birthday is the same exact date.  I happen to know that during the summer, this special man has all of his grandsons over to his farm every day and they have sort of a camp or club.  They go to town with him to run errands, they help with farm chores and they just have the best kind of time that young boys ever could have.

Well, let me have Joyce tell you a bit more about these special men and then I'll share a few pictures of this fun set with you.

On January 21, 2016, Tom will become 70 years old and his first born grandson, Patrick, will turn 11. Back in 1970, Tom was attending Texas A & M and working at a large hog operation in Texas.

To avoid being drafted, he enlisted and signed on to the Army Special Forces, otherwise known as the Green Berets. When he completed his military tour of duty in 1974 we moved back to our hometown where Tom joined his father in farming and raising pigs.

In 1977 he joined the local police department and, in the vernacular of the day, he became a “pig”, which he remained for the following 27 years.

During those years, along with policing, Tom remained in farming and, our own three children were exposed to raising pigs and hog killing, alongside their own grandparents.

In 2005 we welcomed our first of six “grands” when Patrick Wayne was born on Tom’s birthday. Fast forward to the year 2015 and Grampop (Tom) decides to raise pigs again. Now a new generation of kids are being schooled in the workings of raising pigs and the experience of butchering pigs. In addition to that, they are learning how to make sausage, scrapple and lard.

Naturally, “pigs” is the perfect theme for this birthday of two special men. Grampop Tom and “grand”son Patrick

Obviously pigs were a given when planning out this set, but I couldn't just stop there.  I had a bit of fun with some farm life sayings to accompany the pigs!

I sat aside a few of the cookies in a special box for Farmer Tom and young Farmer Patrick.  I am really loving these boxes.  They really help to set apart your gift as something truly special.  I have another bit of information about this set to share with you.  Many of you have followed me for some time on Instagram and Facebook and you know that I take care of a curly headed little girl named Maggie.  Farmer Tom happens to be Miss Maggie's Grampop!!  You may notice a "Special" Pig cookie on the platter above.  Maggie just had to "help" me complete this order.  I don't think Tom or Patrick would have had it any other way!

We at "How Sweet!" sure do hope that these soooeeeeyyyyyyt cookies made celebrating your birthdays extra special!!  Thank you Joyce for allowing us to be a part in this special celebration.
