Hey there friends!! Welcome to our new blog/website!! If you follow us on Instagram at A Place to Gather, you may remember me mentioning a few months back that there were some exciting new changes coming. Well, THIS is the next big thing!!! We're movin' on up and are thrilled to have you along for the ride!!
First, you'll notice the name change, from A Place to Gather to How Sweet Cookies. While I still completely adore the name A Place to Gather, I realize that it is a bit of a mouthful and we don't technically have a place to gather, so a name change was in order. What a process that was......I have pages and pages of name ideas, doodles of names in different fonts, I've had countless conversations with those closest to me (so sorry Jess) and finally, after months, have chosen "How Sweet Cookies". I know that we don't naturally view all of life as sweet, it certainly has it's sour moments, but I firmly believe that even in the midst of those sour moments, sweetness can be found. I have found over the past few years that even in the event of sadness (i.e. funerals and loss), that something sweet is needed to lift spirits, encourage a smile and bring a feeling of love and hope. It has truly been an honor for me to help others achieve that through custom designed sugar cookies. So, that's why I chose "How Sweet Cookies".
Second, you'll notice that this is a dot com! I decided to take the leap and obtain a website, a place where all social aspects of this business can be joined together. My life is quite a circus, so if I can get at least some, if not all, of my clowns into one ring, I'm a happy girl!! I hope that this website will make life easier, not only on me, but also you, my dear friends. Through the use of the blog I hope to create a better sense of community by inviting you into the process in a way that Instagram or Facebook cannot. Also I will be highlighting certain events that I'm commissioned for in a title series called "Gatherings". The client's name will be added to each post as needed. This will give us a sense of being a part of the celebration, hopefully will inspire our upcoming celebrations and help to foster a sense of community.
I love the quote by Lao Tzu that says "A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." On December 14, 2012 I took my first step in this journey. I really knew nothing about how to truly decorate a cookie, but someone had faith in me and I'm so glad that she did!! Four years later and I'm still surprised at the faith that people put in me to create a one of a kind treat for the special people in their lives. I have truly been honored to have all of you on this journey with me. I hope that you continue along with me as I seek new ways to grow, learn and create sweet spots in your lives.
